10 years and all the rage! The Orgue et couleurs Fall Festival celebrates 10 years
with the resonant sounds of the great organs in Saint-Nom-de-Jésus and
Très-Saint-Rédempteur churches in Hochelaga-Maisonneuve, where the festival was born
and which celebrates its own 125th anniversary in 2008. The Musée du Château Dufresne
and the churches of du Gesù, St Andrew & St Paul Church, St John the Evangelist and
Saint-Léon de Westmount will also open their doors to festival-goers.
This musical event features the king of instruments in the roles of soloist,
accompanist and partner for various artists and ensembles performing the music of
yesterday and today. The 10th Orgue et couleurs Fall Festival will be symphonic,
lyrical and electronic; it will see a head-to-head encounter between the worlds of
opera and Broadway; it will go crazy for strings, make the brass sparkle, get up on its
points, celebrate the artistic vitality of its host neighbourhood, pay homage to
Olivier Messiaen, and provide a platform for young musicians studying organ at
Québec’s conservatories and universities. Twenty concerts and special events (six
of which are free) will take place in the evening or during the day.
